while there are groups for technology and other subjects, there is none for science. that is remedied through this group. this deals with the formal side of our relationship with the physical world and our own place in it, as well as policy and implications for living, the environment, for scientists, scholars, students, and citizens. any formal scientific subject is included. astrology, psychic phenomena, and parapsychology are excluded. the subject matter extends to science policy and its implications for societies and countries.
at present, we are an "everyone is invited" group. sexuality is an incredibly important aspect of being a human and of biology. i can't say it's fair to exclude discussions of it (apart from cyber and pickups), but if we cross whatever invisible line Gather has about this, we'll lose access to the younger folk who might want to come here to learn things. if that line is crossed, it'll be dealt with accordingly, possibly by making a "science for mature audiences" group, as silly as that sounds. objectives? none. we're here to be curious, learn, and have fun.
